Marshfield Parks Youth Sports Sportsmanship Policy
Parents, coaches, officials, and spectators are all involved and play an important role in the sportsmanship of our youth sports programs. Teaching good sportsmanship starts at home, it is developed by coaches and officials, and should be practiced and encouraged by spectators. Players should treat teammates, coaches, opponents and officials with fairness and respect. Everyone involved in the game, should play by the rules. Coaches, players, and spectators should always show respect to one another and to officials regardless of whether they agree with the calls made by officials. Players should demonstrate modesty when they win and graciousness when they lose. There are sportsmanship expectations for everyone participating in youth sports (including but not limited to players, parents, coaches, and spectators).
Expectations for Parents, Coaches, Athletes, and Spectators:
Parents and Coaches must:
- Encourage good sportsmanship by demonstrating positive support for all players, coaches, officials, and all in attendance at games.
- Place the emotional and physical well-being of all players and staff ahead of the personal desire to win.
- Treat all players, coaches, spectators and officials with respect regardless of race, sex, creed or ability.
- Not deliberately incite and/or participate in unsportsmanlike conduct at any game or practice.
- Not use abusive or profane language at any time during any game or practice.
- Learn the rules of the game and always follow them.
- Set a positive example at all times.
Athletes must:
- Exercise self-control at all times.
- Respect coaches, officials and opponents and treat them the way they wish to be treated.
- Learn the rules of the game and always follow them.
- Display modesty in victory and graciousness in defeat.
Spectators must:
- Encourage good sportsmanship by demonstrating positive support for all players, coaches, officials, and all in attendance at games.
- Treat all players, coaches, spectators and officials with respect regardless of race, sex, creed or ability.
