Become a Lifeguard

Be a leader, save lives, become a lifeguard! Applications will be accepted starting January 2026.  The deadline to submit applications will be announced.

Applicants must be 15 years of age or older and pass the Red Cross certification class.

If applicant is under the age of 16, Department of Labor forms are required. Both forms for "During School Term" and "During Non-School Term" must be filled out.

A certification class will be provided by the City of Marshfield for hired applicants.  Students will complete 6 hours of course work online before in-person classes. 

Students will complete 21.5 hours of in-person classes at the Dr. Tommy Macdonnell Aquatics Center. Class dates are: May 15, 16, 18 19, 20, 21, 22. Class times: 4-7 pm M-F and 9am-5pm Sat. Students must attend all dates and times for certification. 

Lifeguards will learn CPR for the professional rescuer, deep water and shallow water rescue skills, and pool extrication methods.
